Goldenrods are debatably the most valuable perennial herbaceous plant genus in Michigan, serving as a host plant for over 100 species of butterflies and moths, and offering critical late fall nectar and pollen for native bees, beetles, and butterflies, including migrating Monarchs. The Latin “\u003cem\u003esolidago\u003c\/em\u003e” is formed from \u003cem\u003esolidus\u003c\/em\u003e, which means “whole” and \u003cem\u003eago\u003c\/em\u003e, which means “to make”.
